These Future Kings – Via Dolorosa

Local artist

Cult Melbourne band These Future Kings (1984-1990) release their long-lost second album Via Dolorosa. Formed by Perry White and Charles Caldas, the group became a fixture of Melbourne’s live circuit, playing early shows at St Kilda’s Seaview Ballroom, supporting Ed Kuepper and The Go-Betweens, and briefly featuring Warren Ellis on violin.

Recorded in 1990 with Nick Wilson (ex-Sea Stories), Via Dolorosa marked their most ambitious work, featuring guests from Weddings Parties Anything, The Killjoys and beyond. A marked evolution from their earlier sound, it reveals a richer, more mature set of songs. The album was shelved after Rampant Records collapsed, and the band soon dissolved.

35 years on, Via Dolorosa finally sees release via Kylpyvesi Records, run by David Nichols, who first documented the band on his Distant Violins cassette.
