Surprise Chef are an instrumental soul quartet from Melbourne, Australia. Their music reflects an education of 70s soul, jazz-funk and library music, steered by a gritty, cinematic aesthetic.
Based out of a share house known as the ‘College Of Knowledge’ that encloses their analogue recording studio in the inner suburbs of Melbourne, Australia, Surprise Chef take a DIY approach to their brooding jazz-funk.
Having released two left-field deep funk 45s on their College Of Knowledge Records imprint – Stuart Little’s Car / D.A. Stab Wound and the Surprise Chef / Karate Boogaloo spit 7” – Surprise Chef now release their debut LP All News Is Good News.
