Rainbow Chan – The Bridal Lament

Preceded by a sling of singles over the past couple of years, “Pomelo Water”, “Smoke and Pepper” and “Seven Sisters” have quietly unfurled the album’s story, each emerging from the vast corners of Rainbow Chan’s multi-faceted sound – from shimmering, euphoric dance pop to emotionally haunting balladry and eclectic art pop. “Under The Laurel Tree” unravels a darker space, born from musings on mortality and existential dread brought about during the early conceptual stages of The Bridal Lament show. Saxophone drifts in mournful layers, weaving a trance-like spell, broken by distorted textures and spectral vocals weighed by notions of grief and wonder, life and death.
