Melbourne Zoo – Melbourne Zoo

Here’s something different and special from the Sorcerer label. Melbourne Zoo were a Melbourne-based jazz-fusion band who existed in the mid ’70s and featured the likes of Shane Cleary (of cult progsters, It Flew Away) and a very young, teenaged Paul Grabowsky in the lineup. They gigged regularly during the period and gained a cult following, though never officially released any recordings. This LP has six tracks taken from the original studio tapes, released for the very first time. There’s extensive liner notes and photos detailing their history, and it’s released in a one-off edition of 300 copies on 180-gm vinyl. Heavily influenced by Mahavishnu Orchestra, Weather Report, Herbie Hancock, Frank Zappa, etc – this is awesome high energy jazz-rock and a fascinating glimpse into what could have been. A must for fans of obscure Oz jazz and prog from yesteryear!
