Marcel Borrack – Telecaster Diaries

Totally fantastic album from this local musician who’s released several solo albums on Mick Thomas’ Croxton label over the years, though this one’s a real musical detour. It’s an instrumental album with drummer Maria Moles and saxophonist Adam Simmons in tow, and Borrack playing guitar, bass, Farfisa and percussion. The sound is like a mixture of ’60s Blue Note-style soul-jazz, early ’90s acid-jazz and the contemporary lyricism of artists such as Tommy Guerrero and Khruangbin. Very heavy on the latter, actually, which is a good thing, indeed! This one is super-limited (150 copies) and highly recommended!
