Ex Ponto – Odlazak

Odlazak – the third full-length from Ivan Masic’s Ex Ponto – takes its name from the Serbian word for “departure”. Across seven tracks, themes of departure, arrival and return are woven into a personal narrative spanning 1980s Yugoslavia, contemporary suburban Coburg and the journeys between.

Alongside Ex Ponto’s signature blend of electronic and organic textures are fragments from Masic’s homeland: the haunting sound of the gusle, a traditional Serbian instrument played by his ancestors, and VHS recordings of family members reflecting on life and death. Mastered and partially mixed by Belgrade’s Goran Simonoski (La Plant), Odlazak draws on ambient, kosmische, dub and post-punk traditions to create a work that is as personal as it is transportive.
