DC Cross – Open Guitar (CD)
$20.00 Inc GST
New D.C. Cross album, this time exploring the balance between dedicated practice, improvisation, emotion, and technique.
I spent two months learning one song, while others I made up in a single take.
I’ve been trying to find the balance between a natural flow state and practiced methods.
A bit like martial arts — you learn the moves, you practise the technique, and then when it comes to fighting, it all hopefully comes out in a focused controlled anarchy.
Getting as far away as possible from the restraints of my previous influences, I tried to be as open as I could on the guitar.
I used three main guitars: a vintage Yamaha I bought off a guy at Woy Woy train station, a $12 unbranded flea-market guitar, and a hand-crafted luthier-made Opus acoustic from South Australia.
I’ve been relaxed with recording methods — you can hear birds singing, neighbours shouting — it all adds to the openness.
