Conway Savage – Too Dark To See: Solo and Collaborative Recordings 1992–2010 (Numbered 2LP, Lilac vinyl) *ONE COPY PER CUSTOMER*
$95.00 Inc GST
Named after a track from Savage’s 1993 debut EP, the 24-song collection spans nearly two decades of recordings, tracing the evolution of an artist whose understated songwriting and weathered voice made him one of Australia’s most distinctive musical storytellers. While his contributions to the Bad Seeds helped shape the band’s emotional depth, Savage’s own recordings revealed an equally compelling talent, drawing on country, folk and blues traditions to create songs that were intimate, haunted and deeply human.
Conway was a pianist, songwriter and vocalist whose presence in Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds from 1990 to 2017 helped define the emotional and sonic language of the band across three decades. As Nick Cave said, “I miss Conway. We all miss Conway. We miss him a lot. Things are not the same without him.”
The anthology brings together key moments from across his solo catalogue alongside a selection of rarities, highlighting favourites including “Fair and Tender Ladies”, “1000 Days”, “Trail of Broken Hearts”, “Nothing Broken”, “Only Ghosts” and the title track. Throughout, Savage’s piano-led arrangements and unvarnished performances capture an artist more interested in emotional truth than studio perfection.
The project was initiated after former Bad Seed Mick Harvey approached Impressed Recordings on behalf of Savage’s family with the idea of creating a definitive tribute. The result is less a greatest hits collection than a thoughtfully sequenced portrait of a songwriter whose work has only grown in stature since his passing in 2018.
