Archie Roach/Briggs – Took The Children Away/‘The Children Came Back

$25.00 Inc GST

Local artist

Bad Apples Music and the Archie Roach Foundation are proud to present a limited edition 7” single commemorating the 35th anniversary of ‘Took the Children Away’ by our beloved songman and truthteller, Archie Roach, and the 10th anniversary of ‘The Children Came Back’ by Briggs, featuring Dewayne Everettsmith, and Dr. G Yunupingu, better known as Gurrumul.

When it first hit stereos across Australia in 1990, ‘Took Children Away’ told the story of the stolen generations in a sparse, gospel-folk style that stunned listeners into silence. Twenty-five years later, Briggs honoured Uncle Archie by introducing a new generation and audience to his legacy defining song by performing, ‘The Children Came Back’, for Triple J’s Like A Version.

Previously released by Skinnyfish Music ‘The Children Came Back’ features Briggs,  Dewayne Everettsmith on vocals,  guitar and harmonised chant from the late great Gurrumul, and clapsticks and chant from Tiwi Island band B2M. A celebration of Indigenous success stories in the arts, sport and activism, the song also cements the mutual respect between Archie Roach and Briggs, two generational powerhouses who helped reshape music in Australia.

All proceeds will go to the Archie Roach and Adam Briggs Foundations
