Dave Graney and Clare Moore – Laburnum Of The Mind

$45.00 Inc GST

Local artist

These genuine legends never stop. Dave Graney and Clare Moore have been regular characters and players on the Australian (and international) musical landscape for nearly 50 years, beginning all the way back in 1978 with The Moodists. They require no introduction, even though I guess that is kind of one.
Laburnum Of The Mind is their new album, their first new release to be released on vinyl for over 30 years, and it’s another spectacular statement of intent. It is a ROCK album…. but let me hand the mic to Dave…
“When we say “rock” I guess we would be thinking of The Doors, Wire, Urge Overkill, Steely Dan, Queens Of the Stone Age, The Replacements, Pulp, Roxy Music, The Fall, Blue Oyster Cult and those kinds of tones. Those kinds of lyrical flights and suspensions. Bo Diddley and Latin beats and diminished and augmented chords. Expensive inversions. Flash stuff. Though there is also a lot of dumb, irrational, loose and goofy as well”.
The first seven tracks are all pretty upbeat and in the pocket grooves. Backbeats abound. Then it gets freaky with the title track and the diss song from out of time, “Little Bands Suck”. That last track must be heard to be believed. It may upset a few old players in the scene, but Dave and Clare don’t care.
In collaboration with Dave and Clare, Magnetic South have pressed up 300 copies of the album on 12″ wax, and of course, we have the compact disc too.
Dave and Clare never stop playing or touring. They will likely be playing near you soon.
