The debut album from Japan’s mighty Buddhadatta! Coming back to Oz next month for an extensive run of shows, the disc was recorded after extensive tours throughout Japan, Taiwan and Australia and is crammed full of hits.
If you have seen Buddhadatta on stage you will have become accustomed to their reverence for Buddhism via their attire and the topics of their songs, inspired by practising, throat-singing Buddhist monk / band leader, Vogli Bonze. Bass player Seiko engages almost the entirety of the audience with constant eye contact as she swathes her samurai bass. Drummer Takami, sits up back: cool, calm holding the strong beat that he has perfected from his years in legendary Japanese underground bands.
